And off we go again! In to the wild dusty yonder. Every year and adventure and every year something a bit different and new. This year we did not get placement (grumble grumble) however I offered help building camp to OKNOTOK with a handful of us early goers. I really very much enjoy pre-event time on playa and always want to maximize time in the dust...plus building. And of course in true burn fashion the weather during build was exciting. And some of the coldest I've ever experienced on playa. Exciting!
Additionally, our total camp this year consisted of 9 virgins...fun! Not only were these some of my closest friends but also my partner (who would become my fiancée mid burn week❤️🔥). Truly a unique experience with these amazing humans and of course that means, like every year, we experience the burn differently. And after 11, this is right up my alley.
Photographically I was able to mix in using my phone this year as they have gotten to the point where I feel comfortable using it as a legit photography device. This meant more flexibility in shooting as I have not taken out a full camera pack in a couple of burns. That being said, magic was had, photons were captured and hugs were exchanged.
I will say it's funny attending an event for so long and watching it change over the years. The same as burners before us got to feel as the event shifted dramatically in 2012 (the year of my first). Experiencing a different passage of time and community always makes it unique. And getting reinvigorated by sharing Home with my friends and partner for another 11?! years :)
